Wisdom tooth surgery is a necessary step toward a top-notch oral health for many. Even though this treatment is common, it’s important to take the recovery period seriously. So, if you’ve recently undergone wisdom tooth surgery, Dr. Joseph Fullmer and our dental team encourage you to recover properly by using our tips.
The first tip is to stop the bleeding and reduce the swelling. You can stop the bleeding by covering the surgical site with a gauze pad. Then, bite down on the gauze for about 45 minutes. Once the pad is full, please remove it and place a clean pad on the area. To reduce the swelling, ice the cheek outside the area. You can do so with an ice pack or bag of frozen vegetables. It’s best to ice it for 15 minutes on and 15 minutes off. Repeat this process until the swelling subsides.
The second tip is to take the necessary medications. Dr. Joseph Fullmer should have given you pain medication after your appointment. Please take the medication as recommended. If he didn’t give you medication, you can take over-the-counter painkillers.
The third tip is to have a soft-foods diet. It’s best to eat soft foods, like mashed potatoes, yogurt, ice cream, etc. because it can help you avoid complications in the area.
